Lost in email

Group email threads have become the default solution for strata committees to communicate. We explore the pitfalls.

Email overload

What fills your inbox? Newsletters, travel bookings, bills? Now add the deluge of strata matters once you’re on the strata committee. Soon keeping track of the strata issues gets lost among your otherwise very personal inbox. Unless you’re the sort of person who files every email into a folder, a simple search will be an exercise in deciphering what is strata related and what isn’t.

Maintaining transparency

So John doesn’t get along with Jane on the committee and conveniently "forgot” to cc her? It happens. Whilst email remains an “off the record” personal communications tool, committee politics can play out in unhealthy ways, either in lack of transparency or unprofessional dialog.

Traceability

Our founder (former strata committee member) was recently asked by his neighbours (current committee members) to dig up history on the building from 12 years ago. Some of it was found in his inbox, but only after 20 mins of searching. Email was never built for managing a record of past events.

Ditching the email habit

Hello Strata was created as a result of a strata committee buried in email. Once your strata plan is on Hello Strata, email still plays a role in providing notifications. However, you can readily delete these emails as the core records and communication remain on our platform. In addition, communication on Hello Strata ensures transparency where all current and future committee members have visibility, whilst building an archive of resolved matters that can be recalled in future.
